Sidewalk Trees

Project Idea

To make strong, specific recommendations to the city to pretty please replace all the dead and missing trees on the sidewalks downtown.

Prepared by

Shevek McKee, 11/9/2019

Location

Almost every street in the district

How does this fit the CRC Mission?

Dead and missing trees make the neighborhood look blighted.

What are the first steps to take?

Talk to city forestry department (Probably Rachel Coyle - Urban Forester Supervisor). Identify existing planting schedule. Identify community priorities for planting. Make recommendation to city council.

Schedule

Would be great to work out in the winter, as I believe planting happens in spring.

Other organizations that might support this project?

Saint Paul Parks Department, Friends of groups?

What community engagement do you think would be involved?

Discussion at regularly scheduled CRC meetings, Online Survey/Petition

Estimated project budget

> $25,000

Specific funding source idea?

Not sure what the city's planting budget is. Might involve raising community dollars to get a better result.
