Congratulations to the recipients of the 2018 Neighborhood Honor Roll!

Here are the award recipients (listed alphabetically):

1. Kati Berg is a CRC Board Member and Co-Chair of the Friends of Pedro Park Expansion. When the City announced plans to sell the Public Safety Annex – instead of following the plan to demolish it and expand Pedro Park — Kati led the effort to organize the neighborhood. The City is fighting for the right to disregard many years of community engagement. Kati and hundreds of residents want the City to keep its promise and create a larger park.
2. Black Dog Café in Lowertown is a locally owned restaurant (owners are Stacy, Sara and Andy Remke) that has served as a meeting place for many local groups, including knitting groups and book clubs, and has also hosted CRC meetings and events. Black Dog also sponsored the Lowertown Cleanup Crew with SPIRE Credit Union — people who picked up litter in the Mears Park area were always invited to Black Dog for a complimentary beverage.
3. Keith Watton Keith Watton is an Ecolab employee who has helped put up holiday decorations at Catholic Charities (Higher Ground and Dorothy Day Center) for the past 9 years. He also arranges events that include songs, treats and a visit from Santa at the homeless shelter. His passion for giving is selfless, and his dedication has made a huge differences for residents who visit the shelter.

The recognition event for these and other volunteers from each of the 17 district councils will be on Friday, January 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, at the University of St. Thomas, Anderson Student Center: Woulfe Hall. Many district council board members and employees will attend, and many City Council members. Join us in celebrating the contributions of these outstanding community volunteers.
