All district councils are seeking nominations for outstanding community service and volunteerism

Saint Paul’s district councils are seeking nominations of a person, a group or an organization for outstanding volunteerism or community service for the Saint Paul Neighborhood Honor Roll.

The Neighborhood Honor Roll is a citywide award to honor people who improve the quality of life in Saint Paul. The CapitolRiver Council is seeking nominees for the 2018 award. Up to 3 nominees will be selected in each of the 17 districts. (See the directory and map of Saint Paul’s district councils to nominate someone in another neighborhood.)

The Neighborhood Honor Roll Awards Night will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 25, at the University of Saint Thomas, Woulfe Hall. The event is a way to recognize some of the people who go above and beyond to help make Saint Paul neighborhoods a better place to live and work, and who have made a sustained and lasting impact.

Please nominate a person, group or organization that has demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to our neighborhood (which includes Downtown Saint Paul and the Capitol complex).

Nominations are due by 5pm on Friday, December 28, 2018 for consideration and selection by the CapitolRiver Council Board of Directors. To nominate someone, call the CRC office at 651-221-0488, or email office@capitolrivercouncil.org. Please include:

  1. Name of person or group you are nominating.
  2. Brief description (3-4 sentences) of how your nominee has helped to make District 17 a better place.
  3. Describe your nominee’s connection with our neighborhood (resident or worker).

Development Review Committee, 8-9:30 a.m,. Dec. 11, 2018

The CRC Development Review Committee will include a presentation and Q and A by Marcq Sung and Andrew Hestness, City of Saint Paul Planning and Economic Development, about the City’s economic development activities. The committee will also review a request by Catholic Charities to increase the number of shelter beds from 320 to 356 at 435 Dorothy Day Place. More information about that proposal:

Development Review Committee – Nov. 13, 8-9:30 a.m.

The Development Review Committee will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 8-9:30 a.m. in Conference Room B, Skyway level, 180 East 5th Street.

Agenda items will include an update on the Capitol Area Architecture and Planning Board’s comprehensive planning process (More information: https://mn.gov/caapb/), review of a proposed project at 241 East Kellogg Blvd (where Kelly’s Union Depot is currently located see the following 241 Kellogg Blvd proposal (HPC Application) for more info), and a review of City of Saint Paul housing initiatives and programs (see the Housing chapter, Comprehensive Plan 2040 page on the City website). Apply to be appointed to the Skyway Governance Advisory Committee

The CapitolRiver Council is seeking applicants to serve on the Skyway Governance Advisory Committee. The committee currently meets on the fourth Friday of the month from 9:00 – 10:30 am and may meet in the evening on occasion as needed.

Committee member duties include attending meetings, discussing skyway-related issues and concerns with other users of the skyway system, discussing proposed changes to skyway hours or temporary closures, and making recommendations for City staff and the City Council related to City policies and ordinances.

Eligible committee members must live and / or work in Downtown Saint Paul. Appointments to the committee are for two years, starting with the January 2019 committee meeting.

Public Sector Job Fair and Community Input Session on Nov. 3

Anyone who is interested in learning about career opportunities with the City of Saint Paul and the State of Minnesota are invited to attend a job fair at the River Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, from This is a partnership between the City of Saint Paul and the State of Minnesota. From 2 to 4 p.m. the City of Saint Paul will be hosting a Community Input Session on the City workforce. This is part of the City’s “Voices of Our Community” series to help shape the future of Saint Paul by learning about the city’s equity work, giving people throughout the City to provide feedback on how we can best move forward together.
